The Manhattan Loft stands out for its unique concept, which was born out of Tan's belief that a different working environment can stimulate creativity. This idea led him to design an office that would attract talents from different countries and showcase their creativity to the markets. The space is divided into two levels, with the workspace on the lower level and an entertainment area in the loft, embodying the "Work, Play and Relax" concept.
The design of the loft was realized using cast iron metal structures to create an industrial look, reminiscent of New York's loft apartments. The red brick wall was hacked to raw finish at the side of the wall, enhancing the industrial aesthetic. The working area was built on an engineered wood platform, further elevating the area and distinguishing it from the rest of the space.
The project, which spanned from July to October 2012, was not without its challenges. The space had to be carefully planned to accommodate various areas including a working area, meeting area, pantry kitchen, toilet with vanity, a relaxation corner, director seating, accounts, and entertainment space. The integration of so many elements required meticulous planning and a careful balance of colors and materials.
The result is a well-planned blend of materials, warm and cool, timber and metals, creating different levels of design. The colors were chosen meticulously to merge comfortably into the concept, allowing every sense to feel at peace, yet enticingly exciting. This careful attention to detail and innovative design approach earned The Manhattan Loft a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2015.
The Manhattan Loft is a testament to the power of design in shaping work environments. It showcases how a well-thought-out design can not only create a visually appealing space but also foster creativity and productivity. It is a shining example of how design can transform a workspace, making it a place where people can work, play, and relax.
